Frame Measurements

When you order a frame bag, I will contact you requesting a couple pictures and some information about your bike.  I will need to know the year, make/model and size of your bike, and I will need two pictures that look like the following ones.

I use a modeling program to create a template for your frame bag.  This method will allow me to make a frame bag that will fit your bike.  In order to do so I need a photo that follows some specific criteria.

Ideally I would like you to take your bike outside for a photo.  This will ensure you can get far enough away from the bike, and the photo will be well lit.  Prop your bike against something like a wall or a fence so that it is straight upright, and the background is not distracting.  Now you will attach something to the bike to give me a measurement reference to scale the photo.  A measuring tape in inches works well as long as the numbers are big, like the tape in my first sample photo.  You can also attach something with a known measurement to your bike. In the second is a standard 8.5x11” piece of paper, lengthwise, so I know the length for scaling is 11 inches.  In the third photo is a short ruler that is 6 inches long, so even if I can’t see the numbers, I know that it is six inches.  If you can’t find a measuring tape, a ruler or a piece of 8.5x11 paper, tape a Canadian banknote lengthwise to your top tube.

Once you have a measurement reference in place, walk 10 feet away from your bike. Crouch down so you are at the same level as the bike.  If you are standing and looking at an angle down to the bike, I will ask you to retake the photo.  Crouch down so when you look at the chain stays and seat stays, they appear as one.  Centre the bike in the photo so there is an equal amount of space in front of and behind the wheels.  Make sure your camera is focused and take a couple pictures.  Then while crouching in the same spot, zoom in to have the entire triangle in the photo (sample photo #4) and take a picture of that.

What camera is best to use?  Ideally a high quality digital camera - mirrorless or DSLR.  If you have a really good phone camera, that will work as well.  All my sample photos were taken on a Google Pixel 6 phone.  If you are not sure if your phone is good enough, take the photos and send them to me and I will see if they work.

So in summary I will need two photos: one with a measuring device in place from 10 feet away, and another of the same but zoomed in.

I understand this is a bit of a procedure but it shouldn't take more than 15 minutes to take the photos and send them to me.  This will ensure that your frame bag will fit.
